COLONEL MAHIP CHADHA was commissioned in 1966 into The Second Battalion The Third Gorkha Rifles; one of the finest battalions in the world which had the honour of winning two Victoria Crosses in WWI.
The battalion saw action in both the World Wars returning to India after a final stint in Pakistan, and was taken over by Indian Officers at Ferozepore. Colonel Chadha retired in Jun 2000, after which he worked in various jobs till he finally retired as the President of Helios Aviation. He turned to writing after the demise of his wife Kiran in 2010.
HEW STRACHAN is Chichele Professor of the History of War at the University of Oxford, and a fellow of All Souls College. He has published widely on war: his most recent works include The First World War: Volume 1 : To Arms published in 2001 to widespread critical acclaim and The First World War: A New Illustrated History, which was published in 2003.
